Fallbrook Pregnancy Resource Center USE YOUR POCKET CHANGE TO CELEBRATE LIFE Your pocket change can positively affect the lives of women and children in Fallbrook. Please help by placing your change in a baby bottle available in the ZFC, and when it is full returning it to Zion. In January 1973, the decision in the court case of Roe vs Wade legalized abortion in our nation. This year marks the 35th anniversary and 50 million babies lost. The Fallbrook Pregnancy Resource Center works within our community to carry out our mission to care for women in pregnancy-related crisis by meeting their emotional, physical, and spiritual needs, enabling them to choose life. Thank you for supporting life! The goal of this organization is to provide military service members with children’s books, so that these men and women can keep in touch with their children across the miles and here in the states. The program offers video cameras and children's books to the troops, who read the books aloud to the video tapes, and send the book and tape back to the children. We encourage your participation by bringing children’s books to the drop-off box in the ZFC. We are collecting books through Sunday, May 11. All proceeds will go to the youth and adults that will be attending the servant trip to New Orleans this summer. Tickets will be available in the church office or after services on Sundays beginning May 11. Help Rebuild New Orleans August 3-9 It is hard to believe that Hurricane Katrina occurred almost 4 years ago. Yet the devastation is still very evident. There are still many homes that need to be rebuilt, repaired and even cleaned out. This summer, Zion has the opportunity to help the people of New Orleans overcome this heart break. During the Week of August 3-9 a group of willing servants from Zion will be traveling to New Orleans to spend a week at Camp Restore. Camp Restore is a Lutheran organization that provides housing and meals for volunteers. They will also organize work sites for us, so we will be able to best use our skills to help those in need. What an incredible opportunity we have to serve. This project will cost us just $25 a day per person. This will include 3 meals a day, a place to sleep, showers, and a worship service each night. Our main expense will be transportation. We currently have 30 spots available. All participants must be 16 years old or older. If you are interested, please contact Lisa Dufresne, as soon as possible. More information will be available soon. Pacific Southwest District

POWER LAB – Discovering Jesus’ Miraculous Power Church Directory A new church directory is being produced by the Stewardship Board - one that showcases the TIME and TALENTS of Zion's members. We want to know, so we can share this with your Zion church family. Check out the display behind the Information Booth and add your business card or name and information to the list. It's FREE advertising - and that's good stewardship. Say it with Flowers... Would you like to honor a member of your family or remember a loved one? Toys 4 Zion Zion’s nursery needs new (or slightly used) toys for our children to play with. Please bring your donations to the church office. Thank you from the littlest members of our Family of Faith! Dedication of Mural
Sunday, January 13 Zion dedicated our new mural to the teachers of Zion. This very special gift will keep giving for years. It is a visible reminder of the gift of faith parents have given their children by bringing them up in the faith and educating them in our Sunday School and Christian day school. A family of our congregation commissioned artist David von Behren to design and construct a wood mural for the church and school. It is located in the foyer of the Zion Fellowship Center. Dave is a friend of Dan and Sandie Fischer’s. His work can be seen at the St. Louis Seminary, the CNH District office, our PSW District office, St. Paul’s, Pacific Beach, and various churches in the country. Each piece is unique. This piece of art as explained below is meant to be admired and studied as another reminder of how great our God is. Enjoy Dave’s creativity, God’s handiwork and the promises (gifts) He gives to us!

Witness Collecting Stamps
Lutheran Women in Mission have
been clipping, sorting and sending in cancelled postage stamps
to earn money for LWML mission projects. You can, too. Stamps in albums, older postcards and envelopes (from 1930 or earlier) and first day covers should be sent as they are. It is very helpful if you can trim and sort the stamps. Cut the stamps from the envelopes with a margin of no less than 1/4 inch around the stamp. Bring your stamps to the church office. Sound Technicians Needed We need volunteers to assist with the worship services on Sunday morning by providing assistance in the sound booth. If interested, please call Allen Sargent at 728-8288 or email asargent@zlcs.org. We Encourage You to Use “Simply Giving” Simply Giving is a simple, convenient way for members to make their church offerings using safe electronic fund transfers at no cost to you or to Zion. It allows you to deposit your offerings directly into Zion’s operating account on a steady, uninterrupted basis. You choose the donation frequency (once a week, every other week or monthly), the donation amount, and the fund you choose to give to: General Fund and/or Connect Campaign Fund. In this way you enjoy the benefits of first-fruits giving, consistent participation in your stewardship pledges even during travel, strengthened support of your church, and increased security over cash and checks (i.e., cannot be lost, stolen or forgotten). And Zion benefits from the predictable cash flow for better financial planning, reduced work for church and finance staff, secure cash management. Enrollment forms are available from the church office (or at the link below); then return the completed form to the church office.
Simply Giving Charitable Giving In August 2006, President Bush signed a law that allows taxpayers who are 70½ or older to give away as much as $100,000 a year from their IRA directly to qualified charities without triggering federal income taxes. In a typical case, a taxpayer can get an exclusion from gross income for otherwise taxable distributions of as much as $100,000 from an IRA -- as long as the money is paid directly to a qualified charity. This money counts toward taxpayers' required minimum distributions for that year. This new break is available only for distributions this year and in 2007.
