CJSF Service Project - Donate Unwanted Shoes

Students are collecting unwanted shoes to raise money. All they need are your pairs of old shoes – any kind, any condition, any size. We are paid by the pound! The shoes are reconditioned and distributed to those in need. The money we make goes to scholarships and supplies for our school.

Clean out your closets and garage. Bind each pair, tie pairs together with the shoelaces, or bag each pair securely. Bring them to Zion Lutheran School, 1405 E. Fallbrook St., Fallbrook.

Final collection day is Saturday, February 25 from 9:00am-1:00pm. Just drop off your paired shoes in the marked receptacles.  We can pick up your shoes. Just call the school at 760-723-3500.

Zion Awards Scholarship Recipient
We are pleased to announce that we have awarded one of our 8th grade students, Matthew Norwood, the Timothy N. Timm Merit Scholarship for the 2011-2012 school year. Matthew was selected after a rigorous application process from a group of six very worthy applicants.

The scholarship was created in loving memory of Mr. Timm, a long-time Zion Lutheran School Principal and outstanding mathematics teacher. Additionally, after he retired as principal, Mr. Timm facilitated the building of our Zion Fellowship Center. In honor of his service to his Lord Jesus Christ for his many years of service both at Zion and in other Lutheran schools, and particularly in honor of his service to Zion, his family created this scholarship to benefit exemplary Zion Lutheran School students.

The scholarship criteria includes excellence in academic achievement in mathematics, student essays, and letters of recommendation from the student’s Pastor and two teachers. The scholarship includes one full tuition to a deserving student. Throughout his academic career here at Zion, Matthew has consistently earned high marks in mathematics, Mr. Timm’s favored subject. Most importantly, he is a humble young man who exemplifies Christian character to his peers and our younger students. He is a confirmed member of Zion Lutheran Church. In his own words, he says, “I have great peace knowing God is always with me, and I work every day at obeying his Word.” He is a leader in his class, an excellent student, and even has had perfect attendance since he was in Kindergarten. Matthew and his family were recognized during worship service on Sunday, August 28, and at the first school chapel on Monday, August 29th.

THOUSANDS of dollars have been raised to support mission work through the efforts of Zion church and school families!   IT’S EASY!! You may drop off your recyclables on any day of the week . Clearly marked “Ablaze” and “China Missions” receptacles are located along the east wall of the ZFC and in the church sanctuary courtyard outside the church fellowship hall and kitchen. Please note that CA Cash Refund recyclables include: plastic water bottles, juice bottles that are NOT 100% fruit juice, aluminum soda cans, and glass soda, beer, and wine cooler bottles.  We treasure YOU, and ask you to prayerfully consider supporting mission work through recycling.
