Our Current Service Project - January 2012

Donate Unwanted Shoes to Zion Lutheran School
Students are collecting unwanted shoes to raise money. All they need are your pairs of old shoes – any kind, any condition, any size. We are paid by the pound! The shoes are reconditioned and distributed to those in need. The money we make goes to scholarships and supplies for our school.

Clean out your closets and garage. Bind each pair, tie pairs together with the shoelaces, or bag each pair securely. Bring them to Zion Lutheran School, 1405 E. Fallbrook St., Fallbrook.

Final collection day is Saturday, February 25 from 9:00am-1:00pm. Just drop off your paired shoes in the marked receptacles.  We can pick up your shoes. Just call the school at 760-723-3500.

What is it?

CJSF is a statewide organization founded for the purpose of fostering high standards of scholarship, service, and citizenship in middle school.  CJSF emphasizes service to the school and the community while creating pride in scholastic achievement.  Founded in 1967, the California Junior Scholarship Federation is part of CSF, the oldest scholarship institution in the state of California. For more information about CJSF, go to www.csf-cjsf.org.

Who is eligible for membership? 7th and 8th grade students who qualify with the appropriate grades are eligible.  Membership is determined by the grades earned during each 7th and 8th grade semester.  Semester membership is based on work done in the previous semester.  A student must reapply each semester for membership, and membership is neither compulsory not automatic.

When does CJSF meet?  CJSF meeting will occur at least twice each semester during lunch.  Our chapter elects five officers at the first meeting.

What is the membership fee? $6 dues for each semester are due and collected at the first schedule meeting.

What is required for school/community service?  Each semester, members will complete service projects for the school, church, and the community.  Each member should come prepared with service project ideas.

What can you gain from membership in CJSF?  If the student applies, qualifies, and is accepted in CJSF for at least three of the four possible semesters, they will be awarded the Honor Membership Pin at graduation, the official gold seal will be placed on their diploma, and Honor Membership will be indicated on their Cumulative Record which is sent to the student's next school.  At the high school level, CSF awards scholarships to deserving students.  Students should also record CSF memberships on their college applications and biographs.

When do I apply?  To apply, the student needs to fill out an application from available from Mrs. Roberts, CJSF Advisor.  Grades from the previous semester (both quarters) are recorded on the application.  (Therefore incoming 7th graders may not apply until the beginning of the 2nd semester of the school year with grades earned from the 1st semester of 7th grade.)  There is a two-week time period when applications will be accepted.  NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  The deadline to apply this semester will be posted soon.  Please use grades from your copy of your report cards or by logging into your www.gradelink.com account (use the [Transcript] button) to fill out the application.  The school is not responsible for providing the grades.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

In His service,
Gail Roberts, CJSF Advisor
