Ms. Greenwald's 3rd Grade Classroom

November 18, 2011

Dear Parents:

I  Give Thanks!

Yesterday, we ( with the help of lots of loving adults) prepared our food for the feast we had today.  Such fun we had making our own food for lunch…chopping, measuring, and a little tasting!  When we counted our many blessings, at the top of our list was YOU—all of you who helped to make our celebration a memorable success and who ALWAYS support us in whatever we do.

THANK YOU ALL!

YOU ARE A BLESSING TO ME.  In all the things you do, I feel so blessed that we share the same goals for “our kids.”  When we work as a team, our Lord makes wonderful things happen.  He has a plan for each of these special children, and I am sure He jumps for joy when we finally acknowledge Him as the source of all success.  We are as parents and teacher striving to encourage each child to reach just as high as God gives ability.  As we strengthen the positives in each person, we will see increasing growth during this thing called “The Third Grade Experience.” I love this group of kids so much...I consider them family.  Thank you for sharing them with me.  You have much to be proud of!  Keep up the good work! Thank you for loving me unconditionally.  I give thanks that you are in my life!

BEGINNING SCIENCE UNIT “D”

We are now reading Unit D, Chapter 3, “Land.”  The study guide in your Friday folder should help to familiarize you with the chapter.  As always, we will be doing hands-on activities, filling out lab (experiment) sheets, and drawing diagrams to study in class.  Always use the in-class sheets to help you study for the test.  The test is scheduled for Dec. 14.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR READING

Please send your Nov. list of Recreational Reading books to school on Dec. 1.  Remember, these are books read in addition to the Book-it books.  Please do not list your Book-it books on the recreational (Read-aloud) reading list.  November Book-It “box report” is due Dec.1, but may be brought in earlier. (Your directions for the box project are on our web site.)   December Book-It book is an adventure or mystery book. The report will be explained later.  Come check out my personal book collection in our class if you need a book for Dec.

OPEN COURT READING

Next week we will read “Secret Place.”  That will be the last Open Court story before Christmas.  We will pick up our regular Reading routine in January.  During the two weeks before Christmas, we will be writing poetry and studying other genres of literature, including the Bible.  (I hope you enjoy what we do for you.)  There will be no Reading tests on Dec. 9 or Dec. 16.

MATH

We are finishing Chapter 9 and will be skipping Chapters 7 and 8 (to be done at a later date.) Our chapter 9 test is Monday, Nov. 28.  Please send 81 manipulatives (counters) to school Monday.  Beans, paper clips, or pasta shells work well…anything that is small, easy to move on a desktop, and will not roll off of the desk.  Store them in a sandwich-sized ziplock bag, not in a box or other hard container.  Thank you.

Please drill your addition and subtraction facts daily at home.  Silly mistakes are being made on our chapter tests.

CHRISTMAS MUSIC PROGRAM

We have begun practicing for our Christmas program which will be on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7PM.

NEW PENCIL DAY IS MONDAY!

Stock up on any needed supplies, especially pencils!

YEARBOOKS

You don’t want to miss out on our beautiful yearbook for 2011-2012.

 In the love of Jesus,
