Project Fair

I can’t wait to see you all at Project Fair on Friday night, March 7th!  Come see our class’s Family History Projects on display!  I have really enjoyed learning so much about your families and I know your kids have had fun sharing, so come and see the final product!

Math Test

We will have a Math test next Monday.  I normally don’t like to give tests on Mondays but I don’t want the kids to worry about a math test AND their presentations on Tuesday, so this way it spreads things out for them.  This week’s math homework will help them review.

Soil Lab

We have started our Geology Unit in Science and will have a Soil Lab Study this Friday.  Each student needs to bring in a plastic baggie with ½ to 1 cup of soil from their yard.  Please put your child’s name on their baggie and send to school by Thursday.  Thanks!

In Preparation for Easter

In our new devotional series we will be learning about Jewish culture and customs to learn more about what life was like for Jesus as he was growing up.

This leads up to learning about Jesus’ Last Supper and the traditions that he and his disciples were following that night.  As a culminating activity, our class will have a Sedar Meal during Holy Week.  I would like some parent helpers on Maundy Thursday to help with this event.  We will have all the traditional and symbolic foods of the Sedar Meal, and we even have a parent who will be making Matza Ball soup for us this year!  If you are interested in helping out on March 20th either with food preparation or during our special meal, please let me know.  I like to organize teams ahead of time so the day runs smoothly.   It is a really fun and special event.  All parents are welcome to join us!

Spelling Homework Options

Take a pre-test of your spelling words.  Then choose three of the following activities to help you practice your words this week.

1.    Write each spelling word twice.

2.    Cost a Word:  Choose 6 spelling words and find out how much they would cost.  Vowels are worth 10 cents, consonants are worth 25 cents.

Example:  blue = 25 + 25 + 10 + 10 = 70 cents

Circle the word that is worth the most.

Underline the word that is worth the least.

3.    Write your spelling words in alphabetical order

4.    Organize your spelling words into two lists:  words with an odd number of letters and words with an even number of letters.  How many more words have an even number of letters than an odd number of letters?

5.    Write a paragraph using five of your spelling words.  Remember to have a topic sentence, three detail sentences and a concluding sentence.

6.    Organize your spelling words into lists of words that have the same long vowel sound.  Underline how the vowel sound is spelled.  (Ex:  thorny has the long E sound.  It is spelled ‘y.’)
