Music Appreciation

Interviews with Visiting Musicians

Flute with Mrs. Beth Vanni (7.01MB)

Wow! What a treat for our Music Appreciation Classes on April 11th, when a very talented “Zion Mom” played the flute and the piccolo, and came to inspire them to play music to be a better person! Beth Vanni shared from her rich musical background, including generations of singers and family gatherings around the piano, enjoying the old hymns. She believes that learning an instrument helps to build focus, discipline and great listening skills, which easily translates to other areas of study and work. Thank you, Beth Vanni, for sharing your time, your skill and your heart with our kids.

The Bassoon with Mrs. Lisa Keck (3.47MB)

sharing her love for music and her talent in Music Appreciation class!

The bassoon is a unique and wonderful woodwind instrument. How blessed we were to have one of our “Zion Mom’s” come to our Music Appreciation class, March 17th, to demonstrate the bassoon’s tone and beauty. Lisa Keck, mother of Gwen (6th grade) and Brandon (K), has played bassoon for over 11 years and minored in Music Performance at Central Michigan and Central Florida Universities. Mrs. Keck spoke of her love for the instrument, how she learned to play, and the enjoyment of playing in school and community orchestras and woodwind ensembles. “Being a bassoonist is rare because of how difficult it is to play with a ‘double reed’, and how expensive these instruments are”, she said.
