The Good Earth (Audio, CD)
The Good Earth, by Pearl Buck, is our 4th quarter novel. I’m suggesting that some of our students who have reading difficulties, or those who enjoy listening to books while they silently read along in the text, might like to have this audio resource (link above) available. Use of such a resource does not replace the actual reading of the book. They will need to be analyzing specific passages, and working with the text, so they will need to be very familiar with the text, and not just have retention of the story elements via auditory means alone. The auditory CD may help them with comprehension, but not so much the literary analysis of the written text. The book is long and mature in content, and I think this resource will help some students optimize their enjoyment and learning with regard to this classic piece of literature. Upcoming Fieldtrips/Events Thurs., May 15, 2008 Annual Marine Science Floating Lab in San Diego Harbor Spelling This week and next week we will be having combined lessons to finish the year’s list of words. In addition, the Spelling Final Exam (5/30) will be the “Commonly Misspelled Words” listed on page 11 of the 7th Grade Spelling textbook.
