California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF)

Zion Lutheran School has a chapter in the California Junior Scholarship Federation (CJSF) and is pleased to announce membership opportunities for our 7th and 8th grade students. Mrs. Lisa Wilson will be serving as our CJSF Advisor for the 2014-15 school year.  Leading with a servant's heart, Mrs. Wilson is a staff member, parent, and member of Zion Lutheran Church and School. Thank you Mrs. Wilson! Your gift of time & talents are a blessing to Zion!

What is it?

CJSF is a statewide organization founded for the purpose of fostering high standards of scholarship, service, and citizenship in middle school. CJSF emphasizes service to the school and the community while creating pride in scholastic achievement.  Founded in 1967, the California Junior Scholarship Federation is part of CSF, the oldest scholarship institution in the state of California. For more information about CJSF, go to

Who is eligible for membership?

7th and 8th grade students who qualify with the appropriate grades are eligible.  Membership is determined by the grades earned during each 7th and 8th grade semester.  Semester membership is based on work done in the previous semester.  A student must reapply each semester for membership, and membership is neither compulsory not automatic.

When does CJSF meet?

CJSF meeting will occur at least twice each semester during lunch.  Our chapter elects five officers at the first meeting.

What is the membership fee?
$6 dues for each semester are due and collected at the first schedule meeting.

What is required for school/community service?
Each semester, members will complete service projects for the school, church, and the community.  Each member should come prepared with service project ideas.

What can you gain from membership in CJSF?

If the student applies, qualifies, and is accepted in CJSF for at least three of the four possible semesters, they will be awarded the Honor Membership Pin at graduation, the official gold seal will be placed on their diploma, and Honor Membership will be indicated on their Cumulative Record which is sent to the student's next school.  At the high school level, CSF awards scholarships to deserving students. Students should also record CSF memberships on their college applications.

When do I apply?

To apply, the student needs to fill out an application from available from our CJSF Advisor.  Grades from the previous semester (both quarters) are recorded on the application.  (Therefore incoming 7th graders may not apply until the beginning of the 2nd semester of the school year with grades earned from the 1st semester of 7th grade.)  There is a two-week time period when applications will be accepted.  NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  The deadline to apply this semester is September 19. Please use grades from your copy of your report cards or by logging into your account (use the [Transcript] button) to fill out the application.  The school is not responsible for providing the grades.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

Lisa Wilson, CJSF Advisor
